Certified Organic
|
We recently obtained organic certification of our products with NASAA. All our products other than our bath bombs are certified organic to the 95-100% level, most of them at 100%. There are a number of reasons why we choose certified organic ingredients for our products.
Organic farming methods aim to work in harmony with the environment, reducing negative impacts on air, soil, water and surrounding plants and animals by using natural fertilisers and pesticides and avoiding synthetic inputs. Supporting certified organic farming is a vote for sustainable agriculture, an agriculture that can flourish alongside, rather than against, the remnants of our fragile natural ecosystems.

Secondly, because certified organic produce is grown without use of synthetic insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and hormones it is safer to eat and apply to our bodies. A further possible benefit is that nutrient value is higher in organic produce, although this point is still contested.
Finally, certain chemicals are banned in the processing of organic produce. For example, to qualify for organic certification, oils such as macadamia, olive and coconut oil must be cold pressed – that is, extracted by mechanical means only. The alternative to cold pressing is to employ chemical solvents such as hexane, a known toxin, which may contaminate the oils in conventional uncertified products in small but potentially damaging quantities.
Certified organic ingredients mean the product is as pure and uncontaminated as it is possible to guarantee, grown sustainably with minimal negative impact on the environment.
