Mokosh Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask contains 100% certified organic botanical ingredients

A 100% natural and certified organic method to cleanse, exfoliate and detoxify your skin

We are delighted to provide some in-depth information on our new formulation 100% certified organic Facial Cleanser, Exfoliator & Mask, one of the most loved products in our certified organic skin care range. We formulated this product according to Ayurveda principles.  It contains a carefully chosen blend of powdered botanical ingredients that have natural cleansing, anti-microbial and gentle exfoliating properties, as well as ingredients that enhance skin hydration, stimulate normal cell turnover and promote collagen production in the dermis. It is suitable for all skin types, but can be adapted to your specific skin care needs.

How to use

After removing makeup, it may be used as a cleanser once or twice daily. The powder is mixed with water to a smooth paste and very lightly massaged over the skin to perform a gentle cleanse and exfoliation. It is then rinsed away thoroughly with water, either in the shower or using a face cloth over the sink.  After use you should apply both a toner and a moisturiser suitable for your skin type.  The paste may also be left on for 10-15 minutes as a detoxifying and nourishing mask. Oily and acne-prone skin types would benefit from using the mask up to twice a week, whereas drier skin types might prefer to use the mask only every one or two weeks. For dry skins, occasionally mixing the powder with milk or yoghurt - dairy or vegan - rather than water, will provide additional moisturising benefits to the skin.

Why this method of cleansing and exfoliation is best for your skin

In Ayurveda, health is achieved by looking after mind and body in a manner that is compatible with your individual needs. Diet, activity and lifestyle are chosen to  work with your body, rather than against it, and treating it with the utmost care and respect. The same principle applies for care of the skin: harsh exfoliants and detergent-based cleansers can leave the skin distressed, dehydrated and tight. Our Ayurveda-inspired cleansing method is gentle, and delivers beneficial enzymes, vitamins, antioxidants and other phytonutrients. These nutrients reach your skin in a potent and active form, since they are activated when mixed with water, immediately application.  Because it is mildly acidic, your skin is left with an intact acid mantle. Because it contains no harsh detergents, it does not strip away the body’s own protective oils. Like all the products in our certified organic skin care range, it is free of preservatives and other synthetic ingredients, containing 100% certified organic botanicals.

The ingredients:

Each ingredient has been carefully chosen, and delivers its own unique benefits to the skin.

Oatmeal

Although oatmeal baths have been used since ancient times to help relieve skin inflammation, we are only now discovering why this humble grain is so beneficial. Oatmeal is naturally rich in polyphenolic antioxidants, the avenanthramides, which help relieve inflammation, redness and itching. It also contains beta-glucan, a polysaccharide that protects the skin, helps hydrate the epidermis, and has also been shown to stimulate collagen production and improve skin elasticity. In addition, oatmeal contains the enzyme superoxide dismutase, an antioxidant that protects against free radical damage and can reduce the signs of ageing. Oatmeal also contains natural saponins, giving it a gentle cleansing action, and acts as a buffering agent to help skin maintain optimal pH. Oatmeal is a stand alone natural beauty treatment that in our opinion is superior to any man-made detergent cleanser.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is best known for its anti-inflammatory and healing effects on the skin. We have chosen a powdered form of the whole leaf, harnessing the rich array of enzymes, vitamins, minerals, polysaccharides, and other phytonutrients. Aloe vera contains hormone-like substances which speed wound healing and stimulate the production of collagen by fibroblasts, as well as mucopolysaccharides which act as humectants in the epidermis, helping to bind moisture in this skin layer, and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Neem leaf powder

Neem is an indispensable herb well known in India as the ‘village dispensary’, because of its use in Ayurvedic therapies for a wide variety of disorders.  Our Facial Cleanser contains dried neem leaves, which have anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory actions as well as extremely potent anti-oxidant properties.

Meadowsweet powder

This plant was used to produce the first form of acetylsalicylic acid, the drug aspirin, because of its content of salicylic acid, which is sometimes referred to as a beta-hydroxy acid. Meadowsweet contains salicylic acid at a concentration of around 0.5%. It is a useful gentle skin exfoliant which reduces the adhesion between dead cells in the epidermis, helping them to shed naturally, exposing the fresh cells below. Because it is oil soluble, salicylic acid is able to penetrate the sebaceous gland opening (pore), helping to break down any excessive build-up of sebum. A further benefit of salicylic acid is its ability to stimulate collagen production in the dermis. In addition meadowsweet contains naturally high levels of phenolic compounds which were shown to both reduce inflammation and act as potent antioxidants. It also contains substances which inhibit elastin-damaging enzymes, therefore protecting the skin’s elasticity.

Coconut powder

This is made from the coconut ‘meat’ after extraction of coconut oil.  It is highly absorbent and also has fine exfoliating properties. It contains anti-oxidants and also retains some medium-chain triglycerides, which offer antiviral, antimicrobial and antifungal properties.

Pomegranate fruit juice powder

Pomegranate juice contains high levels of antioxidants including polyphenol, tannins and anthocyanins, which are known to prevent free radical damage. It also contains around 1% citric acid, which is both an alpha and a beta hydroxy acid, and helps exfoliation of dead cells from the skin. Citric acid is also known to help treat sun-damaged skin by thickening the epidermis and increasing the amount of both collagen and collagen-supporting glycosaminoglycan in the dermis.

Rose petal powder

Dried rose petals retain small amounts of precious rose oil, which has both uplifting and antidepressant effects. The petals contain vitamins A , B and C as well as a range of minerals.  Rose petal is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and helps regulate sebum production. It also acts as an astringent, tightening pores and restoring suppleness to the skin.

Calendula flower

Calendula flower is best known for its anti-inflammatory, soothing properties for the skin. In addition it contains mucilaginous polysaccharides which help plump the skin, and is rich in the anti-oxidants beta-carotene, flavonoids and phenolic acids. It also acts as a natural astringent and has good anti-bacterial effects.

Tulsi leaf

Known in India as ‘Holy Basil’, tulsi is widely used in Ayurvedic treatments for a variety of conditions. Rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants, it is also anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties which, in common with its antimicrobial properties, has made it a common treatment for acne-prone skin types.

Wheatgrass

A well known as a rich source of chlorophyll, vitamins, enzymes, minerals and anti-oxidants, making it a potent addition to this product.
